Audio from DVI

I feel like there should be an answer to this question somewhere but I haven't been able to find it...

I'm looking at getting an R9 280X in the future, specifically the DirectCU II, which has no HDMI. I know this card is not really available yet but I assume it'll be the same as the 7970.

So, can I get lossless (DTS-HD, TrueHD) audio from the DVI port with an adapter? Or should I just look at a card with HDMI.

I can't imagine they would make a card without HDMI that doesn't have this functionality.

DVI doesn't support audio as far as I'm aware, only HDMI support's it.

No, DVI doesn't transmit audio - that being said, you can use a DP -> HDMI cable if you'd like which does support Audio thumb.gif

So Display Port is fully capable of transferring HD audio signals? That would be reassuring...

I know normally DVI is video only but ASUS' website leads me to believe otherwise and I wanted to be sure

They even have the HDMI logo on the bottom of the page...

it's only there to reference that if you can use a HDMI adapter with it and what not for eyefinity if you have a HDMI monitor but no DVI monitor. still no audio signal will be sent through.
