Low Max HTT&CPU speeds, please help.

Thread Starter
I am having some difficulty with my new equipment. I tried to run the first two tests for getting my maximums. The HTT would not go above 228 and boot up completly(yes i kept the multi under 1000Mhz, and memory at 100mhz). When I attempted to try the cpu speed I could not get it to boot past 200 fsb & 15 multi(1.6Vcore). The motherboard/cpu are allowing me to go to 25 multi, but for what? I cannot do 200FSb and 16multi, I cannot even do 210 fsb and 15 multi. Is there something I am missing, or I can try? Is the cpu or motherboard defective perhaps? Or could this cpu be that crappy for OC? I could of sworn i read somewhere that the 64 FX are one of the best OCer's, maybe they are bs'ing me?

Woh woh woh, 15 x 210 is 3150mhz mate, that's a lot!

I heard that FX cpus are known to be poor overclockers, but i might be wrong.

1.6v core also seems to be a lot, maybe the CPU is simply overheating thus not being stable. Start at a lower voltage near stock and move on from that, aim for 2.7ghz then 2.8ghz and so on, don't go for jupiter if you can't even reach the moon!

Pfft, if I cant even get to 3.2 on a 2.6 whats the point of keeping this cpu? I can take my old 1.8 to 3.0 "cough". Vcore I set to 1.6 because that was what is said to do in the guide, when testing the max cpu. Around 16/17multi I had tried without 1.6vcore, because I forgot to change it after reseting bios, but it still failed. The main thing I am looking at is the max i can do. Now I cant even take my FSB to 230mhz with normal vcore, at 3x, 4x, 2.5x htt multi, 6 OR 7 cpu multi, and 100mhz mem. Something isnt right.

Low clocked CPU such as your old 3000+ are the best overclockers because of that, at stock they are clocked lower. High clocked CPUs won't do as good because they are already high clocked. You get the point?

What's your cooling and what are your temps idle/load at stock?

Did you disable CPU Spread spectrum in the bios?

I updated my profile with the new specs before I posted.

Edit: The testing for the HTT max, was before I even touched the Vcore. The only things that where changed was in that list. I tried CPU multi of 6&7, HTT multi from 2.5-4x, memory 100mhz. I cannot even get the FSB mhz by itself to go past 228, which does not sound right at all. I see lists of OC's with CPU's in this range and they all show fsb's of 250+.

Edit2:
Quote:
There is one exception however, the Athlon 64 FX line of processors come with their full multiplier range unlocked, from x4 to x24, giving great flexibility in overclocking. But, for this, and the fact they are AMD's top performing chips, expect to pay a high premium
Meh... Something isnt right......

OK I figured something out. I managed to get the fsb to 260 max and boot to windows(currently). It turns out I need my specific memory at 133mhz for this testing, I dont know why. It will not boot at this fsb or any higher fsb in 140~200mhz or below 133. The guide says 100, but It would seem my memory wont allow that when I up the fsb over 228.

Questions would be, 1, if there is something in the memory I can set/change to get over 260 fsb? 2, if this will be of any use when I go into other settings for actual OC?

This current test includes my cpu multi at 7x(vcore + seemed to make no differences), I know not yet if it will work with higher settings of the cpu multi or the ram. I pray the ram is not going to be picky at more important OC changes, as i spent 140 bucks for these dimms. Not to mention they apear to be one of the top rated.

While I continue to wait for any additional help/info, I am going to try and see what I can do with the cpu multi, with the memory over 100mhz.

Digging up a good usable Genie settings for the RAM could be the issue. Some memory is flaky with some base speeds.
Have you tried A64 tweeker to work the memory timings?

I been following the 4th one trying to find my maxes. the second one, i have all these settings basicly in my motherboards bios i just dont have alot of knowledge to go with on setting them. Third and fourth made some sense but i dont see how that is going to make the 260 fsb work with a normal cpu multi like 13x. At the moment I cant even get 230 fsb to work with a multi of 13(13 is the main for my cpu,2.6) and 133 mem. I realy think it has to do with the mem right now, but i need some better info on these settings to know what to put them to. Any idea what is good settings for my memory? Model = TWINX1024-3200C2PT

OK that changes my views. Im going for the 3.0 OC on my old venice cpu(now that i got the ram for it), all the useless, confusing, and totaly not working tests for this san diego FX ended up in killing my mobo. Thing will not power on for more then 5 seconds.
