Question About XSPC Photon 270 Reservoir

Alrighty, so I am starting on a new WC build and I noticed these XSPC Photon reservoirs. I noticed that they sell a photon/d5 combo. I already have a d5 that is perfectly fine so I was wondering if there was a kit or something that I just could not find that would allow me to attach my d5 to one of these reservoirs.

Here's a pic of the combo res-

Here's a pic of just the normal res-

I'd like to be able to hoop my pump up to the res because it would be nice and clean.
Thanks!

I bought the res before the combo came out. I was talking in a thread like a week ago with somebody who was wondering the same thing so they emailed XSPC. XSPC said they have no plans to sell the Endcap/Pumptop seperate =(

Agreed. Especially cuz how much i love the build quality of the Photon. And if i get a D5, I'd wanna get the Aquacomputer version. They'd make alot of sales if they sold the top seperate

Or what they could do would be to sell Photons without the D5 attached.
Sucks about the mod, kit. Maybe if they get enough req for it. But won't be anytime real soon.

I have the Photon 270 and an XSPC H2 Tower case, and am trying to figure out the best way to mount the 270. I love the case, but I'm going to be drilling everywhere just to fit XSPC gear inside. Both the res and case are beautiful, but definitely aren't plug n' play.

I doubt they will ever sell the pieces to turn their photon res by itself into the pump combo because the glass res ends are sealed and leak-tested and comes with warnings not to ever take it apart, and doing so voids your warranty.

I just ordered that 270 pump combo the other day. Should be delivered sometime tomorrow.

Yeah, but they screw apart and back together the same exact way as any other res endcap. There's no tamper proof seal or anything. Mine just screwed apart. It's hard for me not to take things apart =\

#14 ·
Yeah I'm aware they just screw apart, but for whatever the reason XSPC will not warranty it after you do that. I assume their testing showed problems with leaking seals or some such, but in any case they aren't likely to ever sell a kit to convert their reservoirs over to the pump combo if it's something that would void their warranty like that.

There's no tamper proof seal though is my point. I think they don't want people taking them apart cuz there's like 10 O-Rings holding the whole thing together. But there's nothing to show whether or not you've taken the caps off.

That totally misses my point. Why would they sell a res and tell you never to take it apart, but then also sell a kit for it that you would have to take it apart to install? I seriously doubt they ever would.

You wrote that "they have no plans to sell the Endcap/Pumptop seperate" which sounds to me to fall well short of establishing that 'they're never going to', and then after that someone else wrote that "Maybe if they get enough req for it. But won't be anytime real soon."

I was responding to that, giving the main reason which had not been mentioned why I suspect "that they're never going to" no matter how many requests they might get for it.

I could see that, as mentioned previously, XSPC could possibly someday sell the res/combo but without the pump, so people could use their own D5 variant. I don't know that they would ever do that, or whether or not it would make good business sense for them to do so, but it wouldn't entail breaking the seals which they don't want people doing.

Somebody already wrote them an email about it. And they stated specifically that they "have no plans to sell it because the endcaps are pressure tested and removing them voids the warranty"

Those are loose quotes BTW but it was something like that =P

But all that being said, yeah "NEVER" is a strong word, especially when it comes to a competitive business.

No where on the paper or box it comes in, does it say that unsealing it will void the warranty. How would they know it was opened?

I was stating that it would be good to sell the whole unit minus the actual D5 pump.

I also would really like pump top accessory, I have DDC pumps tho. I asked about a mod kit on their FB site and they replied that they have no plans to have a mod kit at this time.
Some of the comments on FB implied that different things would depend on demand.

I really believe they don't want them opened due to needing to be reassembled carefully.

This is all you get in the box.

Yeah I'm fairly certain it's because of all the O-Rings. You could easily forget where one goes if you didn't read that note first. That frosted glass tube in the middle feels really fragile too. I def took mine completely apart, put it back together, then flushed it along with my rads. No Leaks

I WAS under the impression that they said Somewhere about it voiding the warranty. But yeah, how could they do that with no Tamper Proof Seal? There's literally nothing that shows whether it was opened or not

It doesn't look as bad with this

That's also why BP sells the upgrade kits for the D5

it still look really bad to have the res standing on the pump , so much better when the rez is fixxed on the side and lifted from the bottom a little bit.
plus it has 0 modularity , you get a pump that need a top and a res that need a bottom if you can't fit them both in the same place anymore in the future.

Can't help but wonder if anyone on this forum has a 3d printer? With the number of engineers and designers in the crowd, I'm sure some one could design an endcap that would work. Of course there significant testing would be required but it seems like there are people who would be willing to do that
