2 7970 Xfire want to add R9 280x

I built this rig in Jan. When i Saw the roadmap for AMD< stating no new GPU's till 2014.

I updated just a month ago from 3770k Maximus V to 4770k Maximus VI, Acrylic Tubing COrsair 900d.. Pretty much bigger and better on everything.

The video cards are EKWB cooled. MSI 7970's They run Very nice. But I do want more power. I could never afford 2x or 3x titans. So I went with 7970's Now I hear the 290x arecoming out and are titan killers, Butthe price is insane. I doubt I will find anyone wanting to buy my cards considering 280x are 300$

But the real question. Could I add on a 280x to this system and would it be worth it? Add another MSI R9 280X as my primary card. put the other 2 cards in the 8x 4x slots.

Anyone have any issues withTRI fire and the formula MOtherboard? I've seen people talk about TRI and QUADFIRE on sabertooth and MAximus extreme. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also what would the performance be comparable to ? 2x titans?

Im currently running as Asus PB278q at 2560 x 1440p. I do plan on adding 2 more of the exact same monitor and Run Eyefinity /triple monitor. I am a fan of AMD. my I7 is my first intel processor ever... I use to buy nvidias up till the 5870. ever Since I bought my 5870's the performance and ease of use i got from it.. PLus the price. I really have enjoyed AMD GPU's with them owning the console market and coming up with products like the r9 290X... I think AMD might give nvidia a run for its money. I'm hoping I didn't invest in the 7970's at the wrong time. If 2 290x's at 1400$ plus waterbloocks blow everything out of the water. That might be the way I go. I would just have to sell both 7970's with water blocks and Xfire bridge and back plate for around 850 $
