Thinking about an upgrade...

Thread Starter
So my computer does well in most things I can throw at it. But with BF4 and thinkng back to Crysis III I feel like my CPU is starting to show its age. What kind of money would I be looking at to make a decent upgrade. I think my gtx670 will get me into the next gen no issues and that my CPU/Mobo/Ram is the best step for longevity, but I want the upgrade to be meaningful not small.

Trying to get an idea, what level intel i need to go to for a decent boost and such, or am I better off just upgrading GPU.

If you have your eyes set on upgrading, what is your budget? Your CPU might be in most situations, the bottleneck in your system.

If I did anything it would be roughly 400 depending on what I could get for my current stuff. I'm not looking for the best clocking board but a decent one, and it having wifi would be a plus.

Also can i get a kit for my cooler, would not want to buy a new one for a different socket, this one does very well.

I'm guessing you gotta check your local store or maybe newegg etc. Am not too familiar with the pricing in your local stores but maybe you could settle with a Ivy i5/i7(might be really cutting it close on budget though), or maybe a second hand Sandy.

Well according to the CPU BF4 Benchmarks, you are losing about 10 frames compared to the two generation old 2500k with your CPU (used the 760 as a comparison [basically a 750]).

So personally, I would try to snag a nice 3770k to get the most out of the extra thread utilization BF4 does and future games will. Since you live in NYC you have two choices of Micro Center's that are available to you, either in Long Island or Yonkers whichever is closest. Both will save you a ton of money because of their combo discounts with CPU's + Motherboards.

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K ($249.99 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Socket $99.99 @ Microcenter)
Memory: G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 2133 ($82.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $432.97

A little over your budget, but you said you are looking for a huge upgrade and this will be huge for you.
