you can Build a M-ATX using the new prodigy M case. It is almost the same size as the ITX version but has room for M-ATX board.

If you can afford both, it's certainly nice to have. With that said, a gaming laptop isn't for everybody. I went with a gaming laptop to complement my desktop and am happy with the results.

I just recently purchased the Alienware in my sig (I didn't pay anything close to retail) and really enjoy being able to take my games with me. I game on my desktop about 15 hours a week and my laptop 5 hours a week, so I get a fair bit of use out of both.

Gaming laptops have a bad price/performance ratio, but if you're willing to sacrifice on settings or open your wallet, the convenience is nice.
