Simple Room Correction

Hey guys!
I don't post on forums alot, just search.

but there is something, I hope you guys can help me out with.

*NOTE* *NOTE* I AM NOT AN AUDIOPHILE; I DON'T HAVE GREAT HEARING, JUST WANT SLIGHTLY BETTER THAN I HAVE *NOTE*NOTE*

now that I did that.

I am looking for super simple, "Wizard" type speaker room correction. (Config files for final settings is awesome too)

realtek had it in their drivers years ago. where you used a semi good microphone placed it near your seating location, and it would adjust delay, polarity and DB to the best of it's limited abilities.

NOW, I've googled, I've tryed to find something.

I have a Soundblaster Zx 5.1 surround speakers (older logitech set, analog); and would like to do this, the main reasons is, I am UNABLE to place my surround speakers in the proper locations. I know my results won't be great, it's not like i'm trying to get a sound-stage in my computer room.

anyone have any insight to this?
I know the dolby control panel that comes with the soundblaster has 2 of these 3 settings, with a short range of adjustment.
just looking to make it slightly better.

You can do it in a player application. It's been a long time since I've had the free ones but in JRiver for example I have simple room correction (volume/distance/bass redirection/polarity on individual speakers) or convolution/digital room correction (more sophisticated real time frequency and time adjustments from a filter you create yourself specifically for your room). Foobar, VLC and the likes can support similar plugins AFAIK.

What you can't do (to my limited knowledge) is "insert" room correction/filters between Windows and the soundcard, only files played in the player benefit, browser, games ect., don't.

that sucks, but thanks for the info, I was looking for more of a "all the time" type of thing.

You could probably do something with VST plugins, Virtual Audio Cable, etc.

Or this:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/

Also Room EQ Wizard I guess on the measuring side, but that's probably overkill.

That said, the above application natively reads filter settings from Room EQ Wizard supposedly, so there you go.

I didn't know there was an "Audio Processing Object (APO) for the system effect infrastructure introduced with Windows Vista", I'm surprised I haven't found an APO that can host VST. Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough.
