Laptop for video/photo editing

Thread Starter
Alright so I'm looking for a laptop for my little sister's birthday. I want something with enough power to last her for a few years. Ideally, I also want it to have a nice design/finish. Max budget is 800$ and it's even better if it comes with a touchscreen. I'm not into notebooks too much so I'm not really versed in them. If touchscreens are a detriment, I can do without.

MacBook Air is out of the question. It starts at 1,000$ and that's way above my budget. Any suggestions?

She'll mostly do school work like Excel spreadsheets, Powerpoints, some Photoshop and video editing. So if I could get a bundle including a software for that, that would be a great bonus. Windows 7/8 doesn't matter. I prefer 7 but both are okay.

Any cheap HP laptop will be able to do that with flying colors (provided you are buying new and not an old used laptop) and should have available software packages to cover your needs if you want. Though be mindful that many times you can buy the software else for a better price.

And always skimp on the memory and by more online...HP and Dell will charge about triple the cost they should for memory...SSDs and HDD aren't much better.

Hmm, I think maybe Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13.3" might work?
It is a mix between a tablet and a laptop, and it is currently $849.
It'll come with a 128GB SSD, and I think you can use your remaining budget to buy a 1TB or 2TB portable HDD to store stuff.

Sadly, I doubt you could get a bundle with the softwares frown.gif
However, I think you can replace Adobe Photoshop for GIMP which it is similar to Photoshop, and it is totally free. You might ask your little sister if she is interest into moving to GIMP to see if it fit her.

For Excel Spreadsheets and Powerpoints, you can find an alternative software that is totally free too.
Same goes with video editing, you might want to create another thread on the software forum to ask them about it. They know a lot.

Okay, if the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13.3" is too much or doesn't fit your sister liking, then you can try ASUS Vivobook. It looks similar to Macbook Air IMO and it is cheap.
I believe there is 4 screen size, 11.6", 13.3", 14.1" and 15.6".
