Recommendation for something to cool an i7-4770K in a Corsair 600T case - Page 4

Thread Starter
Thanks everyone for the help. I ended up getting the Noctua NH-D14 and will be starting the assembly later tonight. I ended up getting the 600T case as well, not because the 540 air didn't look awesome (it did) but because the space I have for the case is short on width, and the cube shape of the 540 air just wouldn't fit.

If there are any issues with the NH-D14 that I should be aware of before assembling, feel free to let me know! Going to be a few hours before I'm able to begin.

I would suggest practice the cooler installation without TIM just to be sure everything is as it should be and also to get a feel of how it installs.

Also it's usually easier to install cooler before you install motherboard into case.

Make sure you plug in the cpu power cable from PSU to motherboard before you screw motherboard into case. It can be a royal beach to do with motherboard installed. biggrin.gif Don't need to worry about the 24pin cable, just make sure any cables going behind or above cooler that might be a problem when installed are plugged in. thumb.gif

Yea and then i'd do two or three mounts to make sure paste is done good. Small line / rice grain top to bottom in the socket, you want paste spread that looks like this:

^rough mspaint yay!

If you look at a delidded CPU you will understand why:

You don't need to cover much width (just an oval) and too much paste is very easy, you don't want it coming out of top or bottom when you've done mount

Very hard to communicate the amount to use, so just take a few tries to get dat perfect oval that doesn't quite touch the top/bottom but covers the entire die and then a little bit more area
