I'm lost as to what GPU to buy

Thread Starter
I was all set on just getting a GTX 760, but then AMD release their R9 series and gave the old ones a price drop so now I just don't know what to do anymore.

I can get a Gigabyte 280X (GV-R928XOC-3GD) for €270 or a Gigabyte 7970 (GV-R797TO-3GD) for €301 (which I believe is the 7970 Ghz Edition) or an ASUS Matrix 7970 for €299 (not Platinum, so I'm thinking not Ghz Edition. Platinum is still €400) or the new R9 280X from ASUS with the reviewed cooler (not the -V2 with what seems like the 7970-cooler) for €299 as well.

And a bunch of other stuff as well. These are the prices.

I just don't know what are decent prices anymore, because some are discounted while others aren't and none of them properly mention if they're Ghz Editions or if I'm better off going with the 280X seeing as they're basically the same price and Mantle will be a thing and oh so confuzzled you guys.

I just want a quiet card that'll run BF4 and The Witcher 3 well. Not maxed out or anything, just well on, like, medium? High? Whatever gets me 60 frames at 1200p.

Get the 280X, mantle is supposed to be supported in future AMD titles anyways. It's cheaper than GHz right now probably, because GHz has the game bundle at least in the US. For me, I'm going to wait it out and see what happens with 290x.

They state it's pretty close to the 770, there's a BF4 benchmark in the forums to look at for BF4 fps.

58 fps ave for the 7950 using 1080 Ultra and 4msaa in BF3? that's my minimum. hmmm. i would not base my gpu purchase on that review.

7950 stock; i7 4.5 BF3 MP 64 1080 Ultra and 4MSAA

58 average back in Jan 2012. lol

The review I read on it didn't seem too favourable, I'll check it out some more. I think the DCII Top will do me fine, but its still two weeks before bf4 gets released. Maybe 290 non-x will be good and not crazy expensive.

I agree with the 280X or the 290 X but to be fair a 7970 or 7950 would be great.. Price wise.

ON the Nvidia side the 760 or 790 are really great too..

Cuda cores are like Single playing Athletes all competing with each other in a Race to finish the most calculations..

While Streaming Processors are Like 4 man Teams that work collectively on one Calculation and finish it.. Then go to another..

that is why there are more Streaming Processors that Cuda Cores..

But Cuda cores can get tired faster and will lay out while the others take over..

The Streaming Processors wear out slower as they use team work

The Calculations are better with Nvidia mostly in a math sense.
But AMD ATi produce the best picture quality and color..weirdsmiley.gif
