this is what I did to my old 460,,,i have no picture of it,,,but I cut a hole to fit a 90mm fan,,with its own fan controller,,,,,i cut the hole and drilled tiny holes,,,went to hardware store,,,,,found some sharp screws and washers,,,done correctly,,,you can mount the fan,,,with perfect length screws,,and perfect size,,,,don't overtighten them,,,it will strip out really easy,,,,i ran that extra fan at 60%,,,the stock fan never really spins up much,,,not hairdryer sound,,,,performance,,,,,10-12.c reduction in temps varying from game to game,,,,,got rid of the high pitched whine anyways

why do I keep showing 2 pictures

OP, seeing how you want to use a completely different fan design that isn't designed to do what the stock fan was designed to do; blow air horizontally through the heatsink - my guess is you're going to have worse temperatures.

Case fans are just going to blow the air directly towards the heatplate which will somewhat disperse the air towards the heatsink, but my guess is it's not going to have enough statis pressure to push enough air through the heatsink and it's just going to cause turbulence since the air isn't being directed through the heatsink to the exhaust and just kind of blowing inside the shroud wherever it goes.

I wouldn't waste time with it.
