Overclocked FX8350... Is this normal?

Thread Starter
I OC'd to 4.5mhz, with 1.392v, multiplier at x20, bus 225, ht link 2.9. One of the cores failed here. I can either up the voltage a tad here, or drop to a 4.4 mhz. However, it seems like my cpu is running too hot even for this overclock. I've seen people OC this to 4.8 and even 5.0.

I'm not exactly sure why their different but, in CPUID HWMonitor, under my mobo it says CPU temp max was 62c, while under the AMDFX-8350c tab, it was max 55c.

About my rig:
AMD FX 8350 black
Asus Sabertooth 990fx r2.0
gigabyte gtx 780
16gigs ddr3 1866
Thermaltake frio cpu cooler

Thoughts?

The higher temp is your CPU socket temp. The lower number is your core temp. 62 is the suggested max for socket temp. That's your thermal limit. I wouldn't give it anymore juice unless you upgrade your cooling. Play with your settings a little bit and see what it will do for you. Every chip is a little different. Sometimes you win the silicon lottery, sometimes you don't. Good luck and have fun.

Use HWiNFO64

Try dropping the HT Link Speed back closer to 2600+.

Are all memory specs manually entered in bios?

The Frio needs an upgrade to go further.

62c max core temp
72c max socket temp
