[RESOLVED]ANSWER FAST PLEASE!! Stuck in startup repair after resetting Athlon II x3 450 to stock clocks HELP!!!

Hi, I have an Athlon II X3 450 and overclocked it to 3.7 GHz stably. After a few days it turned out that my Vcore voltage was detrimental to the CPU's lifespan, so I went into the BIOS on my Asus M5a97 R2.0 motherboard and clicked "reset to optimized defaults" to get the clock back to 3.2 GHz.
It restarted and got to the windows bootup screen but after about two seconds it flashes a BSOD and brings me to Windows 7's Startup Repair, and obviously it can't repair it automatically, if I restart it it brings me back to Startup Repair.
I can still go into the BIOS and attempting to boot into safe mode will make it crash and bring me to startup repair again.
I have an Athlon II x3 450, 8GBs (2x4GB) of Corsair XMS3 ram at 1333MHz, and an ASUS m5a97 R2.0 motherboard.
I've already tried clearing the CMOS via the jumper, downloading the latest BIOS from the ASUS website and installing it from a USB stick, and Startup Repair does nothing.
Will I have to reinstall Windows and lose everything to fix this issue like I did when I upgraded my motherboard?
Please, please answer this soon, this is the only computer I have and I had to ask a family member to use their laptop to make this post.

When you originally set up the system, you probably made certain changes to the bios settings that you need to REMAKE now that you have set things back to defaults. Trying to boot windows with some bios changes will cause windows to freak out because it was not installed (built with) the new hardware "configuration" caused by the change in bios settings.

An example of this is AHCI vs IDE drive mode. Changing this on an already installed copy of windows will cause a failed boot.

If I don't remember every multiplier and voltage I've set in the BIOS is it bricked until I reinstall?

If the ahci/ide thing doesn't work.try this..let it start the startup repair, then exit out of it to dosprompt..
(or you may have to use windows disk)
and type:
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

then reboot.

Glad you got it resolved!

FYI: voltages, speeds, etc, do not change what the hardware "sees" as far as what the hardware IS, so those can be changed at any time without causing the software to stop recognizing the hardware.

Example, chaging CPU voltage from 1.35V to 1.45V does not cause your CPU to morph into a core2duo.

Some settings, like the IDE vs AHCI control mode, or changes to the suspend/power-saving state settings can require software side changes to work correctly.
