Need some advice. Which would you take MSI GTX 780 Lightning or 2 x MSI GTX 770 Lightning in SLI?.

I currently own a MSI GTX 780 Lightning brand new still in the box never used. I have been offered a straight up trade, my GTX 780 for 2 brand new MSI GTX 770 Lightnings. Is this a good deal? Everything I read about the 780 Lightning points towards its overclocking being somewhat hampered due to the cheaper ELPIDA memory and no new bios from MSI. I play a little bit of everything but I really like shooters. I do realize that the single card solution is less of a hassle with drivers and heat and the power consumptions not as great. I would like to be able to run most games at max settings with a resolution of 1080p. I guess I want to know weather SLI is worth it or is it to much of a hassle. I am not going to have enough money to purchase another 780 anytime soon so it's either one 780 or two 770's. Which would you choose?

Two 770s is a good deal but only in respects of cost imo. I wouldn't based on the fact the 780 will destroy anything you throw at it and then a few years down the line when they are going reletively cheap you can double up and still have extremely relevant GPUs.

Never SLI when you can have a single card that is more than enough for current games.

Thank you. So the only real single card upgrade would be a Titan or R9 290x?

Pretty much. Although if the whispers are anything to go off the 290x will only be a margin faster than a 780, if that. I think at the moment you really can't go wrong with a 780 and the Titan is still too expensive for the performance increase.

The only way i would take the 770's over the 780 would be if the 770's were 4GB.stick with your 780....

If it were me I would want the dual cards but would love the single 780... That's for the fact that I don't need to worry about any sli performance issues or other stuff that comes with dual cards. So essentially your choosing between cake and cake with sprinkles on the frosting lol. I would end up going with the 780 I bet. But either way your are doing well as long as it is a good transaction.
