Ram question?

Hello

I have some question about ram....I have

my spec:

Intel i5 2500k @ 4.2GHz
Motherboard
Gigabyte Z68XP-UD4
Corsair Vengeance® — 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 Memory Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C8)
> 2 stick 4GB =8GB

now I find at home a Kingston ValueRAM DIMM 4GB, DDR3-1600, CL11 (KVR16N11 / 4)
> 2 stick 4GB =8GB

Can I put that two RAM together on my motherboard? will be there some improvements? Are that RAM equal fast? Will that kingston bottleneck corsair!

or one simple question put that on my rig or not?

best regards!

Most motherboards with 4 ram slots these days have dual channel memory. That means that if you put identical ram on the same channel the thing will run better. You do NOT want to mix cas 11 and cas 8, because what you get is cas 11. If you do put it in, make sure each set is on it;s own channel. They should be color coded.

Cas 11 memory is pretty slow. Unless you are actually using more than 8g of ram at any one time, even if you had more or that corsair cas 8 stuff it wouldn't make your machine go faster. It is possible (though not terribly likely) that your other memory will be able to run at cas 8 even though it's rated for 11. could be worth a shot if it;s not too much trouble to remove.

Maybe check the memory requirements on the stuff you do. If you're never actually filling up your ram in the first place (likely) you might as well just sell the stuff.

If you are currently not maxing out utilization of the 8GB that you have today, then you will see NO performance improvement by adding a third, slower DIMM to the system. In fact, because the Kingston module is slower than your Corsair Vengeance modules, it might actually SLOW DOWN memory intensive applications slightly. More RAM does not always equal a faster system, it only helps if you're running OUT of RAM.

Hi

First how can I test if I utilization all 8GB of RAM...?

I play BF4 so will be there some improvement if I put another 8 GB on my rig?

If I get you right then is better to pull that Kingston ValueRAM DIMM 4GB, DDR3-1600, CL11 (KVR16N11 / 4) out off my rig?

best regards

Easiest way would be to run BF4 and then press ctrl+alt+del and check your performance tab in task manager.
It will show you how much RAM is being used at any given time.

Nope.

Yep. The CL11 RAM is actually decreasing the overall performance, even though you have more RAM. Take it out.

No worries... Ya 8GB is surely enough. Your MSI 780 with 3GB GDDR5 will take care of the rest thumb.gif
