H100i: How to mount fans?

Hey there

Today i bought a Corsair H100i and 2 Noctua NF-F12 Fans as replacement fans for the stock Corsair Fans.

For the past week, i read many articles about the optimum fan positioning. But at the end, the one article said push, the other pull, and the last "it doesn't matter". Also im unsure wheather to pull/push air OUT of my case or IN my case..

So there are 4 different scenarios:

1. PUSH air IN the case
2. PUSH air OUT of the case
3. PULL air IN the case
4. PULL air OUT of the case.

Here are my system specs:

CPU: Intel 4770k (Currently overclocked to 4.2 GHz)
MB: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H
RAM: 2x 8 GB Kingston Hyper-X, DDR3-1600MHz
GRAPHIC: ASUS GTX 670
PSU: be quiet! Straight Power E9, 480W
CASE: Fractal Design Define R4

In my Fractal Case there is currently 1 stock front in front, pushing air into the case, and 1 stock fan at the rear, pushing air out of the case.

Can you get me any advice how to mount the fans?

Thanks smile.gif

well the idea is to get air to flow through the case. Me I pull it in through the font, and push it out the back. IMHO the whole point of AIO water is to get the cooler next to the fan port so you can use the case air free of whatever gigantic heat source you have it attached to.

the only time I would pull air into a case through a radiator is if it was the only way I could mount it.

In my case, i can only mount the radiator at the top of the case. So then i mount them at the top to pull air into the case.

Would you suggest to stay with the stock cooler or the takte the noctua nf-f12?

iirc you can mount the fans going either way and on either side, so I don;t see how you are limited that way. just put the radiator up next to the case, with the fans pushing from the inside, or mount the fans next to the case with the fans pushing air out, and pulling through the radiator.

The fans should just unscrew from the radiator.

I meant, the position of the whole radiator / fan is limited to the top, in my case.

When i read you post correctly, there are two options.

1. Mount the radiator directly to the case, pushing air through the radiator out of the case?
2. Mount the fans directly to the case, pulling air through the radiator out of the case.

I will try both options, and see which one will get better temps, thx smile.gif

well if you got enough fans and room, you can do both. To be honest I'm not sure it makes a ton of difference. Most water coolers come set up in push, and only get pull when another fan is added, so I suspect there may be a slight performance advantage there.

I have the same case, same cooler and same fans. My rad is in the top with noc fans mounted under pushing air up through rad and out the top. I have rear 140 blowing out and 2x140 plowing into front of case.

Look at my profile pics. they are old with corsair fans. but you get the idea. Love the case! But going full water and moving it all into a nzxt switch 810 thumb.gif
