Help with offset voltage for 5 GHz 2600k

Hey all,
So I just upgraded my cooling from a NH-D14 to an H110 and am working on getting 5 GHz stable on my 2600k (I've been running 4.8 GHz @ 1.41V via manual voltage control for the past 18 months). I'm pretty sure I've got 5 GHz stable at the 1.5V mark, but I don't like the idea of my chip sitting at 1.5V 24/7, so I've been trying to get everything setup with offset voltage control.

I've been targeting the 1.5V mark via offset, and I've got it under load using auto LLC and +.235V offset. Under a load, it sits at 1.50-1.51V. However, under a light load (open chrome or cpu-z, etc), the voltage will jump up to 1.56V briefly. I'm a bit uncomfortable with that, since anything over 1.52V is technically out of spec. There is no other turbo voltage applied that I can understand why it applies that voltage.

I assume this is an LLC issue, and the solution would be to get rid of vdroop. However, when I've tried that, I've also been unsuccessful at getting a voltage at any LLC setting that will go to 1.5V and stop there without ever exceeding 1.51V.

Anyone know why it's doing this? This is my first time trying to OC via offset, so I am unfamiliar with how everything works exactly.

I am using an ASRock z68 extreme7 gen3 motherboard, and can provide pictures of my settings if needed.

Thanks!

I think you should go for a lower clock. 1.5v+ is a lot of voltage to be putting through your chip. Personally, I would find a clock speed that doesn't need more than ~1.4v or lower.

I understand how high the voltage is, I just want to know how to get it working via offset at the moment biggrin.gif

I've always been curious about offset overclocking, just never done it due to the added complexity. At this point I'm as much curious about just learning more about this method of overclocking as anything else.

I'll probably play with my 4.8 GHz settings as well, if I can get offset to work. It's been my guinea pig just to make sure I keep voltages at 1.5V or less, but I've had the same problem with trying to get offset voltage to hold to 1.41V - I get random spikes under light load up to 1.49V, which is unnecessary.

well your on the right track so far,,,the voltage spiking is weird,,,,what kind of LLC settings are there normal/high/extreme,,,what are using to monitor voltage,,,OK I just played around with my chip,,,,my voltage spikes a little also,,,not much ,,then settles down

The LLC settings are just level 1 (constant voltage) to level 5 (steepest drop off of voltage under load), and of course auto (not sure which level auto corresponds to - I assume level 5, though). I've done most of my testing at level 1 (which is what I use for manual voltage) and level 5.

I use cpu-z and hwmonitor to check voltages. I'm not sure if this is just something my board is going to do regardless, or something I can alleviate.

Take LLC off auto and give level 2 or 3 a shot and watch the voltage in CPU-Z. (Using Offset)

what about the core temps when the voltage spikes,,how long does it spike for,,, a second or 2,,,,,i,m just wondering if its that milli second it takes for the software to even the voltage up,,but the monitoring software shows it longer,,i would say if your core temps don't spike up when it does it,,,then its not really spiking enough to hurt anything,,the software is just showing that higher voltage for a second,,,,an example,, AIsuitte II is slow..theres a 4-5 second lag before it reads properly,,,i really think that's whats happening to you
