is it worth having more ram?

So games are recommending 8gb ram in their specs. I have 4so need an upgrade. Would i benefit from having 12gb or is that a needless expense?
You will probably say you can never have too much ram but i need to keep costs down. Im getting a new gpu as well but also i hear there is ddr4 coming soon.its 25 quid for 2x2gb and 54 quid for 2x4gb. Im thinking i should get the 2x2gb and upgrade later when ddr4 is around but if the extra will help more then maybe its worth it?
I plan on getting a beefy gpu because i want to get good performance from next gen games like bf4, watch dogs, titanfall and so on

You cant just go from DDR3 to DDR4 on the same CPU and motherboard so don't worry about that. Just get an 2x4GB kit as thats all you need.

Looks like BF4 may like 16GB over 8GB, if [H]ardOCP is to be believed.

You're in a bit of a tough spot; I think if you are buying now, 16GB is the sweet spot, but DDR3 prices are near a record high right now.
