Computer won't boot

Thread Starter
The computer powers on with my GPU fan on max just whirling away, won't boot to bios.

If I leave it OFF for like an hour it will sometimes boot up, my temps are all fine, it's not overclocked, I've reset BiOS, pulled cable out pressed power to discharge took power lead out for 10 mins, tried everything google has thrown at me to no avail.

Took all the USB, monitor out of the computer etc.

Did you make any recent change to the computer (dusted it, touched components, etc.)?

Well it has been doing it for months now, just recently got worse, have not been using it much, but I have cleaned it inside an all the components, even tried setting it up without the case to make sure it wasn't shorting out.

I think it's been doing it ever since I built it a few years ago, just can't remember.

I don't think the problem is shorting. Did you do the reset operations in this order:
  1. remove the power cord from the computer
  2. keep the power button pressed 1 min
  3. remove the battery from the motherboard and wait 1 min
  4. put the battery back in the motherboard, add the power cord and see if there is any change

If so, I think you need to take out everything out of your case. Buy rubbing alcohol (real name: isopropyl alcohol) and q-tips. Moist the q-tip in rubbing alcohol then clean the motherboard using the q-tip. You can safely use it on all PCBs. Just make sure you don't touch anything except the sides when mounting it back.

I don't have a battery on my mobo that I can see, I have a reset CMOS button on the rear where everything plugs into it.

I'll try that method when I'm home an will report back, I've done all mentioned above but not actually in that order I just did one or the other or some random combo.

But wouldn't the button be enough ? It puts bios back to stock settings.

It should but sometimes it fails and this is the only way to be sure.
