There is a difference. It's not huge; up to 10% FPS gain in some cases. Google it, don't just trust everything you read in this one thread about it. That's a big difference especially if you're running a 120 or 144 Hz monitor. You will notice it; the game will play smoother and minimum FPS will be a bit higher.

on win8.1 vs win8!?
Show me a link.

Also what you said is slightly insulting - I'm not trying to be dishonest or anything - but "don't believe eerything you read on this thread" - why?
Still finding it hard to believe that win7 is only 5% (if that) worse than win8 / 8.1) for single GPU setups?

Thought to link another thread, which has been mentioned before here:
http://www.hardocp.com/article/2013/11/24/battlefield_4_windows_7_vs_81_performance_review/5

Where the person beforehand had stated: "windows 8.1 is a clear winner and win7 is useless", whereas with the very same link they had provided (see above) the performance was:
"The performance advantage, even at its highest of 6%, wasn’t enough to change the gameplay settings or make it look better under Windows 8.1"

EDIT: LMAO it was you...:

Sigh.

It's been running pretty smooth on good ole 7 with the occasional hiccup here and there. I'm still very tempted to upgrade to 8 mainly for the improved boot times but no way I'm dumping win 7 to do so. Will probably wait a little later in the year and get another SSD to put it on.

+rep

After the recent patched, both win7 and win8.1 don't crash. Very little now.
With that in mind - I have hardly been playing BF4. Got so frustrated of it after playing it for 100hrs and couldn't stand playing it with the constant glitches and problems I encountered - let alone the stupid implementations DICE thought would be a good idea (SUAV, EMP blur etc) - which have now consequently been fixed, due to outrage by players.

Cheers for the rep smile.gif

It's really pathetic how early BF4 was released thanks for the thread. I honestly had so many problems with 7 I just upgraded to 8.1, lol.

It was not my intention to insult you or any other poster in this thread, and if I did I apologize.

I still stand by my original statement. At 1920x1080 using a GTX 780, min FPS is 10% higher in Win 8.1 than in Win7 using the same hardware and OC's. I want to reiterate that this is a big deal if you're running a 120 or 144 Hz monitor. You WILL notice that the game runs much smoother, as I did. thumb.gif

Original post is there. The main problem here is that Win8.1 has been proven faster. Because it is not tremendously faster, you are unimpressed and don't want to switch. That's fine and works for you. It's not fine for me. This is OCN. 10% is a big deal. wink.gif

I'd be more concerned with if it was faster at higher FPS (where cpu/platform limit is more important) like 120 vs 150

Min FPS lows are what make the game seem less smooth and fluid, not max FPS spikes. thumb.gif Huge max FPS spikes just introduce more screen tearing, which is undesirable.

depends on your screen / vsync / gpu.
If your avg is 50fps, your min is around 40, and your max is 60fps - I much rather have a figure that gives me:
Max 120, min 35, avg 70 thumb.gif

Noted. I'll give you an actual example of one BF4 map, Shanghai, before and after upgrading to 8.1.

Using Win7 I was dipping into the high 70's all the time (min FPS) when playing on this map (64 player conquest MP). Upgrading to Win 8.1, everything else being equal, even the server I'm connecting to, it never goes below 90. That is just one instance, but I think it gives an idea of what to expect if upgrading.

I am always most concerned with Minimum FPS in any game, but that's just me. thumb.gif

I am too, sc2 has left me paranoid though.

nEcPSqB.png

^That's ~13 seconds where the FPS meter never dropped below triple digits, and min FPS was written to be ~100

so i always look at frametimes, and get a result like this for good performance:

Well in my respect - for the frametimes comparison - even you know now that win8.1 and win7 had almost no difference.
That's when I gave you both frametimes, where both results looked similar.
