Also, MetroUI is always sitting in VRAM, approximately 400MB of continued use with no way to remove it. Where as in Win 7, you could completely disable Aero (which used a nominal 50~150MB of VRAM) and cut it down to 15~50MB of VRAM.

I'm glad you and I are on the same page.
I just will be able to see for myself now smile.gif

BF4 FPS under 8.1 is indeed faster than 7 on the same system. You even admitted it, but said that the difference was not a significant one, at least in your opinion.

Nop, we didn't.
Win7 vs win8.1 - as seen in the OP gives u less than 5FPS difference. There's also barely any frametime differences (courtesy of cyro for analysing my data) between the two.
Now, people who had SLI or HIGHER GPU power seemed to have claimed that the difference they saw was close to 40-60FPS gains win win8 - far greater than my 5FPS.
So, I came to the conclusion, where a lot of people were saying this, that SINGLE GPU setup do NOT benefit that much from win8 - they hardly benefit anything.

NOW - I'll ALSO have an SLI setup and be able to see if that makes a difference or not.

Hmm interesting - well with 1440p that I'll have soon too, there never be 120FPS with my setup lol

Yeah unfortunately tri-sli is still needed for 120 FPS at 1440 without sacrificing the eye candies.

Also consider this, that Windows 8/8.1 do not effectively use hardware clocks, and all Windows 8 results are still banned HWBOT, as it would grossly skew benchmark numbers. Not necessarily BF4, but it is something to consider if people are making these "obscure 20+% performance boosts. If BF4, uses the OS clock for ANY reason (measuring frame time) then all Windows 8 numbers are inherently flawed, that are not using a hardware clock that is.

Now, I know to how configure the computer to user Hardware Clock / HPET, but I am sure a lot of youngsters do not even know about this major pitfall in the OS. Much like the obscene VRAM usage.

Windows 8/8.1 stock have basically time clock drift that needs to constantly be corrected. How they ruined time in OS is beyond me.

I don't know how they ruined it on a UI level, let alone everything else - but hey, people will still buy it LOL.
Good wake-up call for MS though - Vista outsold Win8 (release comparisons) - just gives you an idea of how unpopular win8 actually is.

Anyway - I have win8.1 pro on my 2nd HDD - so I'm un-bias really. If I wanted win8.1 pro, I would install it in a heart beat on my SSD.

I plan to use your BF4 analyser for this comparison - for me, and for others wondering about the frametime differences.

Hey guys, I wouldn't mind doing more win8.1 benching...but BF4 refuses to launch on my win8.1 installation.
All the more hate I have towards win8, just keeps growing.

I'm currently on 1440p and with SLI 680s smile.gif
Hitting around 100FPS on ultra everything - without AA post.

lowering res to 720p/480p doesn't help cpu issues biggrin.gif

Well, something does.

I am on lowest everything and I saw 50% CPU usage. Could have been the game mode or something. Who knows, I'm tired!

I was a sad panda in beta having ~3-5% of frames take longer than 1/60'th of a second on a 4770k in 64 player while at 720p low settings biggrin.gif

Maybe some of them do; i have no idea how the game is these days

I wouldn't lie - no idea why I would ever lie to anyone about anything.
Currently SLI on 680s and I must say - I'm hitting 100+ FPS
I'll bench next time.

Smooth I must say.

FUN FACT though:
When I let Afterburner "synchronise setting for GPU" - I noticed stuttering with my SLI setup in win7.
I removed that setting, then manually downclocked my 2nd GPU to be the same as the first GPU and ever since it has been perfect.

Again, would like to try on win8...but it doesn't boot the game - don't know what I have to do to make it run - did a repair install, checked for updates, left it on the browser to open the game for over 15mins....gave up after that - couldn't be bothered.

Maybe after some time I'll try win8 again and see if the crap game runs on it.

So I'll produce some BF4 1440p SLI 680 Win7 HT ON results.

I don't understand this. I'm functioning @ 10% power right now...

I believe you.

The problem was me not WANTING to believe you because I had just bought and gone through my 30 days w/ the i5. Also, I don't think I quite understand what you were doing as I was after more frames, MORE FRAMES!

Again, sorry man. I'm trying to work on being a better OCNer. biggrin.gif
