Quick fix to improve your gtx 600 overclock

Hi all

Just thought I would share my experience with gtx 600 overclocking and how I managed to improve my overclock. I have a KFA2 gtx 670 (ref 680 PCB) and initially when I bought the card I was only able to run 1293mhz stable on it whilst folding@home. I was on the stock 670 cooler and temps were around 64C with the fan at a very audible setting. I tried running 1300+ on the core but it failed very quickly.

A month late I fixed a Gelid Icy Vision cooler onto the gtx 670 and now my temps max out at 50C. What is strange though is that I can now run the core at 1320mhz stable on folding@home. Im not sure if its just the fact that the gpu has 'broken in' or if its down to the lower temperature, but now that my temps are lower is has enabled me to overclock the gpu higher.

Might be worth considering if your 670 is overclocking quite low and you are close to the 70C throttle limit for the keplar boost speed.

For the sake of a £30 aftermarket cooler, I would recommend trying it and seeing if it helps!

That looks really good. I'm about to find out regarding my GTX 670s (reference 670 PCB) since I'm going to put them under water pretty soon.

My top GPU can be OCed to about 1.3GHz give or take a couple dozen MHz (never tested too extensively), but my bottom GPU won't go anywhere beyond 1176MHz with an already unlocked BIOS, 150% max Power target and 1.212v Core. It would be great if it was just the temps hindering the overclock thumb.gif
