That graph was posted in a fool hearty attempt to suggest the 8350 was comparable to the 3960 under certain circumstances.
I simply pointed out how absurd it is to believe that.

In case you missed it......I own two AMD gaming rigs......not one......two

Feel better now?
No. You pointed out the 8350 3960 argument when no one else did. You jumped to the defense of Intel when no one asserted your argument. That is how flame wars start. Question was is AMD viable for gaming. Answer: yes. Again no mention of Intel or need for a flame war. Or an opinion of one benchmark that never stated 8350s place against the 3960 as them being equal, no one rational would state such.

Actually that was not the question. We all know and agree that AMD CPU's play games fine. The question was if its smart to pair up an FX-8350 with an R9 290x. My opinion is that if you are getting a very fast and expensive GPU like the 290x then its also worth getting a CPU with the grunt to run CPU heavy games at great frame rates (when you are doing a scratch build).

You would be fine going with an AMD chip but depending on what you play Intel may give you a better gamming experience. I have had a 1100thuban and a close friend has an 8350 and I currently have a i73820 and a i74770k. AMD will play any game out there and with a 290 your frames in most games should be good. When it comes to MMO's and poorly optimized games (Rome 2) the difference can be substantial.
War craft minimum frames in cities dropped into low twenties and sometimes teens on my 1100t @4.3 went to Intel 3820 @4.3 and minimums in crowded cities climbed to mid to high 40's. Rome 2 with large armies plays ok on my two Intel chips but when my friends with a 1100t @4.3 and a 8350@ 4.5 join I notice a definite slowdown in the game. Forged alliance and Sins of a solar empire also run smoother on Intel in my experience.

Do you need Intel to play games - No
Will you see gains in poorly optimized, strategy, and MMO's - Yes

And as far as cost an I5 or I7 usually only require a budget board to clock well while and 8350 will require a more expensive board (more VRM) to achieve similar clocks 24/7 plus a larger air cooler due to the added heat. The costs are close to equal (for a board, cooler, cpu) in my opinion unless you want the high end Intel boards then the price just gets ridiculous

No mater who you go with I'm sure you will be happy, both companies make good processors, Intel gives you great core performance and AMD gives you more Cores per $
