Considering you can pick up ad700x for about $125 regular price, $250 or $300 for this headset is grossly overpriced.
They decided to use a 3.5mm combo jack for compatibility with ipads and smart phones. That means you need to use a splitter for separate mic and headphone jacks. They include a usb dac which can't be very good considering the price. Combo jacks on things like smart phones, tablets, laptops, etc. are usually quite bad sound quality wise. Buying expensive audiophile headphones and using them with battery powered on board sound is kind of defeating the purpose.
Those two things alone would put me off from buying these because it means I am paying for a crappy DAC I will never use and I need to use a splitter and adapter to use these with a dedicated amp/dac. If they were priced reasonably they would be worth considering for convenience though.
This is how they should have made them. With separate mic and headphone jacks. No combo jack, no usb dac and cheaper price. Forget portability, these things are huge. AT really needs to focus on their primary audience which is audiophile gamers using PCs. Separate 3.5mm jacks are compatible with almost everything anyway. If people really wanted to use these monsters with portable devices they could just use an adapter.Edited by FDS - 2/7/14 at 8:32am
