I purchased a 4820k and an asrock fatal1ty pro last week after considering the same things you mentioned in your posts. My decision was decided by a few factors.

I live near a microcenter first of all and the cpu has an in store price of $269. Then they had a bundle deal on the motherboard which was for $50 off so the board came out to be $216. I couldn't pass up that deal.

Also, with respect to the 4820k and the better manufacturing techniques of using solder vs. TIM and the subsequent cpu temps were a concern to me. I'm wasn't interested in de-lidding.

X79 - socket 2011 has current options for cpu upgrade (6 core) as well as any new cpu's that come out in the future.

The asrock board was ivy-e ready so no bios flash was necessary prior to installing the 4820k, it worked perfectly from the start. Asrock has a very good bios and I was able to get a 4.6ghz oc within a few hours of testing, bumping up the multi and adding voltage when necessary. I was also able to use off-set voltage with power saving features enabled.

Overall I'm very satisfied. I am currently using a GTX690 but now have been considering selling/trading and running other CFX/SLI combinations with now restrictions on pcie lanes etc.
