Build opinions

Thread Starter
Just looking for opinions on this part list. Will be using for 24/7 i5 folding, and comfortable with z77 chipsets, so that's pretty set in stone unless someone has a really compelling argument otherwise. Will be running a linux distro, so os is negligible. Building on mini itx since I don't have much more physical space available for another mid/full tower, and I've been wanting to build a small form factor system for a while. Not on a budget, but this is a specialized system for now with room to expand, so I didn't feel a need to spend too much on it.

Intel Core i5-3570K
Xigmatek Dark Knight II
Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe
Mushkin Silverline 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Samsung 840 EVO 120GB
Silverstone Strider Plus 500W
BitFenix Prodigy (Black)

Thanks in advance.

that's all fine, however folding will make great use of hyperthreading so I really would want to push for the i7 3770k.

Also if it's just folding, you don't really need a 120gb drive, the cheapest SSD would be the best option since it won't really matter too much, put that torwards your CPU.

I'd not go with that motherboard, the GA-Z77N-WIFI, it did much better in the reviews and still has an excellent power system by IR. It's also considerably cheaper and will still overclock brilliantly, again the money you save put towards the i7.

I would also get a better cooler since you're running it in an ITX case, that case can actually take a 240mm radiator so maybe go with the H100i and then overclock it to 5ghz for excellent PPD.

sorry should've clarified, it's specifically i5 folding for a team. there's a good chance I'm going to harvest the 3570k in my current system for this mitx and replace it with an i7. I chose an air cooler since I want to put this build on water at some point, but I'll be moving across the world in about a year, so don't want to do so yet. since I'm going so lean on connected devices, I'll have more than enough space to mount a 230mm fan in the front panel of the case which will help make up for the lack of space for airflow. as I stated, the system will get a bit of a face lift at some point in the form of a gpu and an actually os, so I've picked these parts as a foundation for such. it's just not a main concern at the moment.

Ahhh fair enough

I'd still change the motherboard though, the asus is nice but overpriced for what it is.
