OMG - the leap of faith for getting from the OP article to the OP's last sentences is simply bonkers!

extremely impractical, yes. So is going to the moon to collect some rocks and put a flag on for epeen.
But it was done. There are many demonstrable theories on how the pyramids were built, after comparing the sizes / teqniques used with other civilizations that did similar things (different scale, same techniques) a bit earlier or after.
There are structures of amazing higher precision in construction and measurements than the pyramids - like the Parthenon. We have the technology to know now where almost each stone came from which part of which query for it. The passion to detail was amazing, but that's when you get when a whole state is convinced that they are doing it for their Gods. Slavery doesn't produce those results alone. It was dedication above fear for your live that drived those people, giving their lives, building mountains of dirt as high as the great pyramid to slide 80ton building blocks on they shipped from 1000s of km way, create roads or ice to more insane giant logs across China to build a Budda temple or "3D map" the whole quary so that each stone is placed on the structure having the same "grain orientation" it had before it was extracted and moved leagues away, then to be slide against each other till the 2 faces match to better than hairline precision next or above the previous one.
The fact that "I don't know / understand" doesn't make it "we don't understand or have reasonable explanations". Appeals to / arguments from ignorance don't fly in science, and architectural history, much like history in general, are sciences. Saying I am completely ignorant of advanced mathematics means it doesn't exist either? Some people have been doing it for centuries, yet I should suspend that reality and deal with aliens computing stuff and then dropping them written on gold plates or something like that for my eyes only to see?
Aliens of the gaps - much like gods of the gaps - are the cheat answer of the arrogant mind that cannot say "i don't know", and the sheep who worship those that talk with confirmatory big words saying "solving" mysteries.
So yes, we don't know exactly how the pyramids were build, and we probably won't know for 100%, ever. Much like the Big Bang, the dark matter, how the dinosaurs were whipped out (or if Elvis is still alive).
But we have clues on a few ways it could be done, with the technical expertise they had, which is - lets guess - FAR INFERIOR TO WHAT WE CAN DO NOW.
The fact that we will never be able to be 100% certain of what happened, doesn't make all alternative explanations/speculations equally probable.
And though we cannot really disprove that aliens or Ra himself did make them, since those interventions are highly more improbable than ancient engineers building up ramps around the pyramids to haul things up and then dismantle them leaving the stone structure free-standing, or even the cranes you are so fond off to directly lift them in place, we will stick with what is demonstrably probable and possible. This would still be the case, even if there was an inscription on the walls saying that Ra himself put each of the stones up there with “magic”, and there was a “clear picture of him carved in the wall doing it”.
There, said it. And to make it consistent to the OP, me saying all that proves that the King lives and still has black hair!Edited by pcfoo - 10/14/13 at 5:54pm
