PC hangs at windows splash screen unexplainably...
Not the latest PC anymore but still good enough for what i need it for...

My 1st gen SSD x25m died so replaced it with a Samsung Evo 256gb even though my mobo is only sata2 i'd have imagined it to be lots quicker than what i had...

anyway clean install of win 8 pro all the usual software i've always had etc, and samsung magician to tune that ssd...

Been working good for a week, also have a 4 bay raid enclosure under my desk connected with esata....all of a sudden raid enclosure not recognized in windows...restart bios sees it....windows restart but stays on splash screen - restart again same story...tried windows repair but also stays on splash screen for ages maybe after 10 or 15 minutes if i'm lucky i make it to repair...

do the repair...but still the same thing extremely slow in booting into windows....had an image from fresh install with acronis tried that but same story actually image didn't boot properly so had to repair on the image too

tried changing sata ports or unplugging all other hard drives, usb devices, esata - but same story still snail speed...

SSD is a week old - hard to imagine anything being wrong with that....not impossible but doubtful - i can only think that maybe the sata connections of my mobo are playing up somehow though i've never experienced this before....

Any other ideas?

Yup bios set back to default - just did another fresh install of win 8 but stuck on splash screen - made it though once then win explorer was really slow like when you have a faulty drive...and one of my drives was missing

Anyway disconnected that drive but issues are still the same and won't boot into windows but stays on moving splash screen - not possible to do benchmarks like this

Hanging at the boot screen for Windows almost always indicates a driver issue.

I'd look into getting the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard and any third party SATA chips and see if that helps.

thank you for your help - everything is back to normal......this would have been the situation where a NAS would have king rather than my raid box, tried to save a few bucks - lesson learned

Do seem i have one faulty port on my motherboard - switched it with the dvd sata and put the dvd on one of the orange marvel ports

More work than i wanted it to be but so be it....looking to upgrade mobo and cpu asap
