I think this is what the real problem is, people selling these contraband as if they were the real ones. I'm ok with those who sell them cheap and people buying them KNOWING they are fake.

I also had purchased fake studios from, a reputable chinese source for 50 dollars. Everyone was reviewing about their looks only and not one review said anything about sound. The studios have crazy bass and don't sound "cheap" at all in that area. I was expecting the chinese fakes to sound like mcdonalds happy meal headphones. To my surprise they sounded nearly identical. The bass on them was just as strong if not better, the sound signature was nearly identical if not identical completely. I think they might've actually reverse engineered the chips. I used an amp too
I think the "fake" ones you got are factory surplus or refurbished "flawed" product which was not suppose to leave the factory, and not exactly the fake ones.
The fake studios I found have identical looks and packaging as the real ones, but the plastic parts were somewhat flimsy and the cables are super cheap wires, they sells for ～$300HKD ( ~$35USD), but I do not know what they sound like. You can find at lease a few street stores selling these fake beats for dirt cheap at the flee market.
