scorpio.

Give the devs options of whether to increase their settings / us the options in game if we have that power.

the upscaling / potentially artificial increase in FPS (kind of like the fast action modes on TVs if thats what they're doing) could end worse than leaving the games as they were

Scoepio is 4k version of xbone where all past games will still be what they are for 1080p screens. If a game is 900p and 30fps it will still be for 1080p screens but for 4k screens it will be 4k.

Neo on the other hand will adjust sub 1080p 60fps games and nake them work at 1080p 60fps and 1080p will be a neo requirement. If 2 years later a ps4 game works at 900p, the neo will be 1080p throughout the lifecycle.

Which approaches best to the market to you?

It probably means NEO comes out earlier and is cheaper.

The average console gamer has no idea. To put it lightly he is an idiot who buys Call of Duty and Fifa every year. Every now and then he buys games like Uncharted and claims how great they look on youtube comment section while uploading a 240p picture from their smartphone.

The Xbox sounds like a "high end" machine that is targeted at gamer who have a 4K TV (or are planning to buy one) and want higher fidelity.

I expect Sony to win with the PS4 NEO because lots of wrong information will circulate around. Even if the PS4 NEO won't be able to play at 4K natively the average joe still thinks it is a 4K console, because it will probably say 4K output on the box and he won't notice 1080p upscaled to 4K on his TV because he has never seen 4K in person.

my expectation of how it will go down :

- Sony PS4 NEO comes out first. It should be. I say March 2017 to compete with the NX
- Xbox Scorpio will be November 2017
- PS4 NEO will be a 4.2 TFLOP system. Xbox Scorpio 6 TFLOP.
- Developers don't care since they want to sell lots of games and the majority of gamers still has a PS4 standard or Xbox One standard.
- Ugly transition and old consoles will hold back new games
- Developers will just up the resolution and be done with it.
- I could even imagine the PS4NEO running at weird resolutions somewhere between 1080p and 4K for some games
- PS4 NEO gonna outsell Xbox One, because it will be cheaper and out earlier,
- Games matter more than hardware and with Xbox going full PC they have created more competition for themselves (they still make money off windows store sales)
- PS4 NEO gonna support PSVR. Xbox has no VR have they?

My prediction :

- PS4 NEO March 2017
- 4.2 TFLOP maybe more if they decide to up the clocks (I like the 911 clocks, because I love Porsche though lol biggrin.gif )
- 399$
- Gonna be marketed well
- Lots of sales. Not as much as PS4 standard, but way more than Xbox Scorpio

- Xbox Scorpio November 2017
- 6 TFLOPS. maybe slightly less
- 599$
- Gonna be marketed as isolated console for enthusiast
- Is not going to sell a lot. Maybe it does sell out, but only if supply is low. Same scenario as the Xbox Elite controller
- Games gonna look awesome on it, but it doesn't matter since everything is on PC aswell.

Personally I think PS4 has the better route for milking consumers, but I like how Phil Spencer handles it. He brings Xbox and PC together. He brought us/them Backwards compatability. the amazing Xbox Elite controller and now a strong console for 4K televisions. And the most important thing play anywhere. I love it.

I wouldn't mind paying 5$ a month for Xbox gold, but ONLY if they manage to make Windows 10 and the windows 10 store much better. it has to work atleast as good as Steam.

Xbox has an endgame plan. They envision a future where software is their primary income and the Xbox One console only an enabler of Software.
Playstation has a short term plan. Its gonna work amazingly well for the next 5-10 years for them no doubt, but no idea what happens after that.

I'm curious what they'll have to put in the Scorpio though. I've been playing BF4, GTAV, and Doom at 4K sans AA and its very playable (60FPS+). I'll take full 1080p console at 60FPS over another console that struggles to run 4K 24-30FPS.

Actually I wouldn't mind 30fps as much. The only problem with 30fps is that they always use Motion Blur then.

Since I have no 4K TV, 1080p/60fps would be the way for me to go then.

But I gotta be perfectly honest. Games like The Order 1886, Uncharted 4 or a few others are pretty "smooth" at even 30fps.

For PC games I find 30fps absolutely and untterly unplayable, but for console it's not that bad.

I think both parties are suffering from an identity crisis, especially Microsoft.

Phil Spencer says that Scorpio is a 4k machine. If you're on 1080p X1 is your box. He also said that the fps on both systems would be the same.

On top of that 1st party games are on W10! Talk about a mistake. MS has bad W10 ports now but it will certainly get better, especially since it'll give them practice before Neo.

So we'll have the underpowered X1/s and a 4k machine that's built for a super niche group.

Meanwhile Sony intends to have its ps4 and Neo in the same eco system but Neo is there to provide better fps, proper 1080p and VR.

I still don't think OCN realizes how this will negatively effect the online community. It's the biggest part of console gaming like it or not.

In the end both parties screwed up while creating the current solution and they're jumping the gun with the solution in the horizon.

It's a fragile time. Don't believe me? Why didn't we see Neo at e3? You think they waited to see what MS did then go from there? They've been snooping around getting consumer input from the leaks they spread. Most people are not happy.

Sony has not announced the release date of the Neo. It'll be interesting to see how they handle Scorpio. Will they match 4K or stick to 1080p/60fps?

More than likely 1080/60 and older games can patch in their "Neo mode" too if they like.

Maybe a 4k blu ray player since X1s will have it natively.

the problem with 60fps are CPU bound scenarios.

I can guarantee you that games like Bloodborne won't run at 60fps on PS4 NEO.

Are they using the current ps4 CPU? Maybe a bit higher clock. They'll have to multi-thread the heck out of it lol

I think it's rumored to be 23% better. That is not much.
