3.5GB 667MHz DDR2 vs. 4GB DDR2 @ 533MHz?

Thread Starter
Which of the two combinations will offer better performance? Pretty much all I want to know.

My dilemma here is I have 3 PC2 5300U 555-12 1GB modules and one PC2 4200U 444-12 1GB module,

I have plenty of PC2 5300U 555-12 modules in the 512MB variety and that would pair better with the 3 1GB modules.

I know that adding the slower one into the mix defaults all of the RAM to 533MHz (or at least on that channel, i forget the rule).

Any input?

Performance between the two speeds might not even be noticeable. I would add the 1GB stick. More RAM is generally better than faster RAM.

PC2 4200U 444-12 should run at PC2 5300U 555-12 speeds if your manually set the ram to run at PC2 5300U 555-12 in bios meaning just overclock the 4200 stick to run at 5300 speeds if your motherboard supports it

basically its not even overclocking because your loosening the timings on the stick to get to tun at higher speeds smile.gif

I would do that if it wasnt an OEM HP board. Thanks for the info though, might be useful elsewhere.
