Is Overclocking a big hype?!

Thread Starter
ok ppl i just don't get why my system overclocked isn't seeing additional frames when compared to stock speed?!

I'm basing this on F.E.A.R game's own performance testing result. With video/graphic settings at "maximum", I'm getting average FPS of 49 at stock speed (1.86ghz). When I OC my system to FSB of 435 (3.0ghz) i get the same average FPS!

I'd think that bumping cpu speed by 1ghz, I'd see a good difference in F.E.A.R. Oh when I run PC Wizard 2006 for 'global performance test', I do see a big difference: from score of 2800 @ stock cpu speed to 4300 @ OC. So why doesn't this boost being reflected in F.E.A.R?

Please help! Otherwise all my effort was in vain Thanks.

Overclock your Video Card that's where it is at.

Also make sure you temps are not too high. that is quiet a high overclock. make sure you are stable also.

well duh, you need to overclock your gpu, the gpu does do most of the frame work on a game.

well your GPU is where games rely for power. OC that baby and watch your frames skyrocket.

OCing your CPU just improves the overall speed of your system like opening applications and what not.

If he can play FEAR he's stable enough for real world usage.

Overclocking your video card will give you the boost in FPS. You should still notice that there is less lag and stuff but the video card governs FPS.

That's not necessarily true.

You could volt-mod that 7600:

http://www.overclock.net/faqs/104207...od-pencil.html

Ensure that you have adequate cooling, the stock HSF may not be up to the task.

Then try it again.

P.S. Please read the disclaimers and heed the warnings.

What, the part about FEAR? Depends on how long he played. If he played for an hour or two then he's most likely stable for real world usage. If he just turned it on for a few minutes then he may or may not be stable.

just use in th overclockinmg tool in your nvidia controll panel. youll see a big performance in games. i got my video card for 25$ a radeon 9550 flashed the bios and i was able to hit double the stock speeds

ex

stock 250core
200mem

over clock 500 core
300 mem

i got about a 70% increase in games and such i get around 80fps compared to 30fps at stock

I see so the FPS is governed by video card and not necessarily the CPU. I will do yet more research to OC'ing my graphics card. Anyone know what's high stable oc settings for EVGA 7600GT?

thanks again
