And are you sure you'll stick to Intel? AMD would outperform intel in multitasking
Guys, an 8350 will not
outperform an Intel 3930-K in multi-tasking. The 3930-K has 6 cores with multi-threading. That means 12 threads of processing versus 8 with an 8350.
Bang for the buck, an 8350 is great, I just bought one!
But for what asl01 plans on using his computer for, a 3930-K is not a bad way to go (if he can afford it).
As far as the rest, I think you have the right idea.
Also, RAM speed isn't that important--it's more the amount that you have.
Are you doing 3D rendering? In that case it's worth even going 32GB. For gaming you only need 8-16GB, but you benefit from having more RAM when doing rendering and things like that.
I would second waiting to get a GPU, a 550ti is fine for the games you like currently. If you're doing more productivity/rendering/CAD stuff, it might be worth looking into getting a workstation cad like a quadro / firepro.
As far as specific parts, I'll try to give some suggestions when I get home from work.
