pc gaming on a tv

Thread Starter
I want a new tv for pc gaming. My current one is a 6yr old lcd and only does 50fps. Im in the uk and tvs are all 50hz rather than American 60hz. Its my understanding that all tvs will display 60hz anyway (apart from my current tv for some reason) Im also unsure about 100hz tvs. Ive read someplaces that they are 50hz and double it up creating ghosting but im not certain. I just want a good tv that will give me 60fps or better if possible with good picture quality with my pc. I have an odd setup but it works well for me, the problem is i need 32" and they dont make monitors that big. Ive been looking at the Samsung UE32F5000, what do you think? Its 100hz so i need to figure out what effect this will have.

Why not get a good 27" ips panel, sitting less than 2 ft away you will have a good deal of screen real estate to work with. I personally find my 24" just fine for gaming at a mere 2 ft away from it. You can buy a 32 inch 120 hz samsung http://www.samsung.com/us/video/tvs/UN32F5500AFXZA.
I feel that once you go past 24" you start to need some serious horse power to max out settings though.
Why do you want 120 fps, you a competitive gamer?

Does not have to be like that.
Lets not forget one very important thing, view distance.

If you have a 24-27" monitor at your desk, you most likely have a very close view distance.
Something like 30-50 centimeters maybe?(metric system here, google for feets or whatever)

With that short view distance you sure want some nice resolution and PPI.
1080p could look like garbage compared to higher res, all thanks to view distance.

Now, lets go up 50", offcourse if you still sit around 30-50 centimeters biggrin.gif everything would look like crap.
What you, offcourse, have to do is increase your view distance. 50" @ say 1.5 meters, even 1080p will look good.

I actually do my console, PC-gaming and browsing the internet(forums and so on) on a 90" screen.
With a low input-lag, full-hd projector.
My view distance is around 2.7 meters. 1080p looks great.

I see no problem with PC-gaming on a TV, be sure to get a TV that has low input-lag.

Offcourse, serious word/excel editing/work on a 90" screen with a proj @ 2.7 m, is not something i will recommend.

But OMG for gaming, i take my 90" screen everyday of the week compared to tripple 27" screens. biggrin.gif
More inch to the people. smile.gif

It will only look good if you can hit constant 100fps. It will be fine, although it might not be as sharp as 1440p+ monitors because of the stretched resolution, but as above stated, it's your viewing distance that matters too..

I game on a 60" TV and viewing distance absolutely matters. I have zero issues playing any of my games on it.

Its a good tv, similar to the one i was looking at. However its not available in the after some searching.
Im starting to see positive comments about motion interpolation as well, it must have changed since i read about the ghosting problems in games
