I disabled APM and set LLC to Medium. Everything seemed to run fine up to 4.5Ghz, @ 1.425v but PMBus VR temps started to get in the high 90's when running IBT. I then disabled C6 State and it was unstable, I enabled it again and was stable again. I'm going to have to figure out how to get more air on the VR heat-sinks. When idle i'm only hitting 59c and playing Farcry 3 for an hour got me a peak of 80c. I want to run Prime95 overnight to test how stable I am at this OC, but those PMBus VR temps getting close to 100c worry me.

I tested all the LLC settings to see which setting had the least fluctuation in voltage and Medium seems the best. Extreme was putting my voltage way over what I had set and was going over 1.5v so I stopped that test fast.

Thanks for the help and the thread. This newbie appreciates it!

Yeah u got some hot vrm. The ud3 is known for that problem. If u check the giga club in my sig u can find lots of help there theres been quite a few people who have completely replaced the heatsinks and added fans which is a pain to do but usually worth it

I thought the rev4 fixed that with the larger heat-sinks and heat pipe. Oh well, I'll figure something out. My case has two side fans, but they both blow on the graphic card area and the card blocks any air flow to the upper part of the mobo. Since I'm running the H100i there is no CPU fan to move air around that area also.

I'll check out the link.

Yeah it was supposed to fix it but who knows. Maybe just needs new thermal pads and better application, sometimes they fail.

I have my FX 8320 up to 4.1 GHz now, and while it shows the 4100 MHz in all programs such as CPU-Z, Core Temp, etc. while running Prime 95, Windows Task Manager reports a max speed of 4.0 GHz. Is this a common bug?

Yeah, Im not sure where, how or when Windows decides to get the mhz number.

So, I've been running fine until I try to get to 4.2 GHz (1.3375v), then I encounter a weird problem that doesn't seem to be documented by many people. After gaming for a few hours or about 40 minutes of ANY stress test program, my screen will just go black. Problen disappears when I go back down to 4.0. Monitor stays on with blue LED still shining, PC is still running, my screen just blacks. The first time it said DVI no signal and sound started looping. My GPU passes all stress testing so it can't be that. Nothing but a reboot can recover screen image. Core 8 also fails after 35 mins on Prime. I really feel that my voltage is too low. What do you guys think about this? North bridge temps cap at 58-61 celcius and CPU core temp at 58 celcius. I have a CX600M PSU. DDR3 1600 RAM (two 4gb sticks). Haven't done any BIOS modifications to RAM.

Yep, I think you need to bump vcore up a notch or two.

Heres another overclocking guide :

Thanks for the fast reply! Just as I thought, 1.3375 voltage is a bit low for 4.2. In what increments would you recommend upping it? I'm thinking of just trying to go from 1.3375 to 1.3380 for a start, then to 1.3385 and so on. Is this proper? Edit: Nevermind, my VID is 1.3375 whereas my core voltage is reported as 1.344 ... So should I shoot for 1.3500 on the first bump up?
