PC shipments tanked again last quarter, but Intel doesn't seem to have suffered too terribly. The chipmaker posted its third-quarter earnings this afternoon, revealing flat revenue, steady profits, and a rather substantial 62.4% gross margin. Reuters says the numbers "mostly beat" Wall Street's expectations.

Looks like Haswell did pretty well in sells despite disappointing desktop performance gain & tanking PC shipment#, seem to justify Intel's decision to forgo desktop performance gain for better mobile CPU performance/watt.

Interested to see what the Q4 number will be given the myraid of Baytrail & low power Haswell products ready to launch this holiday season.

Plus Haswell Macs are just coming out. And Apple is a big customer.

Down over 2% today and theres still a couple hours of normal after hours trading to go. Analysts and stock holders dont want to hear flat revenue, or "mostly beat". Intel is beating low expectations, making the news not very exciting. And unless they hit a homerun, which i dont think they will anytime soon, its going to be hard to impress shareholders. The next potential homerun i see them hitting could be in 2015 with their x86 SoC's finally getting LTE for phones, but until then they only really have tablets as a potential boost in revenue.
