Thinking of grabbing this as a Phsyx GPU

What do you guys think? It is a Zotac 650. Non ti version.

I'd imagine you'd actually lose frames with that as a physX card. I did when I used my old GTX285 when I ran a single card.

Hmmm really? I heard that a dedicated Phsyx GPU does not have an impact on average FPS much but has a lot of impact on the lower minimum. In other words it eliminates dips in Phsyx enabled games.

I might be wrong though.

I wonder if your problem was because of it was an older gen GPU. 285 is still probably more powerful than 650 though.

I haven't looked into it a huge amount, but from what I know, you actually lose performance because your 780 would be waiting for the 650 to catch up. What game is it for, just out of interest ?

Borderlands 2 and Batman games.

Not that there are many games out there that utilizes Phsyx but I hated the dips I had with BL2 and Batman series.

and who knows there might be a game or a two in the future that will benefit from Phsyx as well.

What you say makes sense though. 650 might bottleneck a 780. It could happen.

I've actually played tons of BL2 myself so I understand the dips (part of the reason for my second card redface.gif) and the 285 didn't help, even OC'd.

It did help in Batman AC though, brought minimum frames up by 8-10 IIRC, but only in the benchmark. Couldn't honestly tell the difference in game however.

Does it help ? Probably.

Is it going to be noticeable ? Nope.

Hmmm That sux that a dedicated Phsyx GPU did not help with the dips. Than I guess perhaps the game is badly optimized.

Still I might just try a 650 TI. (decided for a ti now who knows maybe more cudas help) and if I don't like it I will just sell it for a small lose.

Edit :

Found this

http://1pcent.com/?p=169

Interesting that the guy had better results with 650ti as a Physx GPU over a 680 as a Physx GPU

Good call. The Ti is a much stronger card than the 650. Let us know how you get on !

iardis, is your overclock on the 3570k correct as listed in your signature- 4.2ghz? If it is you should try to get it up to 4.6-5ghz. That would also help a lot with the dips especially in Borderlands 2 as it is basically a 2 thread game on the cpu. If you run task manager while in game you will see your total cpu usage is only running 20-30%. But it will be hitting one thread 100% and another thread only 20-30% and hardly anything on the other threads. The higher the clockspeed on the cpu the better!

Hey buddy thanks for the response.

After seeing your message I decided to higher the ghz on my CPU and I actually have 4.4 right now. Managed to make it work stable and will give BL2 a shot but I will still get a Phsyx GPU tomorrow for the sake of it. If it doesnt work well I can always sell it back. :)

Guys I am getting a 650ti tomorrow.

there are 2 editions. 1 is 1gb and the other is 2gb version.

Does vram matter in the dedicated Physx GPU?
