Overclocking the 8800GTS

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
Alright so today the 8800GTS finally arrived.
I am so far pretty amazed be the card. Performing flawlessly.
I did a 3D Mark 06 Test and it did up my score quiet a bit.
Before = 3045 (6800GS)
After = 8000 (8800GTS)
Now it is time to overclock this beast.
Right now my idle temp is about 45C and my Load temp is at about 60C.
I have tried running ATI Tool but as soon as it reached 666mhz my computer froze. Are there any known issues with ATI Tool and the 8800's? Has anyone else had the same problem and are there any solutions?
How far do you guys thing I can push this beast. Maybe I can get a 8800 Score

666 is a sweet number if you know what i mean.
Btw dont overclock with ATI Tool, seriously...it can only give you trouble.
Instead, just find max clock, then hit Defaults, and overclock it in Riva or Coolbits.
Btw, if you comp froze on that clock, it means that you either need higher voltage, or better cooling, however I'd leave it at 640 (should be stable enough) if temperatures are ok.

Good luck!

p.s. Jesus, you just got the best card on market and wanna overclock it, wow

I think i average about 830

EDIT: ATI Tool freezes on me when I clock on Find Max Core. I have not done Find Max Memory yet. I don't know why it froze on my at 666. The temperature only went up to like 71C

I'm not sure, it seems the clocks are different for most people. I mean, I'm running on stock cooling and look at mine. My load temps are only 62!!

Just keep screwing around 'till you get what you're happy with.

That is what I am going to do next. 62C is a pretty amazing Temp IMO. Right now my room is rather hot. We have a snowstorm outside and I like it warm and cozy when I get done shoveling the driveway . Maybe I should open my window... Last time I idle'd at about 5C thats the CPU. But thats off topic I guess I will just screw around with the timings. Did you use ATI Tool or just Coolbits. (Does 8800 support coolbit, I know the latest driver for my 6800GS didn't like it)

Alright. How did you find your max. stable overclock? Did you use the Max Core and Max Memory or did you juts up it by hand and just scan for artifacts? Also do you know if the 8800 in general don't support coolbits or is it just your comp acting up?

Also which version is the lates ATI Tool. I don't know if I have the latest. I just uninstalled it because I thought it might have caused a conflict because I ran it with my old 6800GS. So yeah which is the latest version? Link would be greatly appreciated.
