Steam OS?

Thread Starter
I'm not too sure where to post this, but I guess you guys might have the best ideas. I'm currently going to be upgrading my computer and server. I've already got one HTPC, but I'm considering building a gaming HTPC for downstairs (my HTPC currently underneath my 50" TV in my bedroom, where I watch all my films, I'd never game on that). I have a load of films, but I wouldn't mind everyone else in the house having access to them, so a HTPC for downstairs it is!

Currently my server runs unRaid, so it has the cheapest Intel CPU I could get, the G530 I believe. My current HTPC has the i5 2500, and a AMD 6450 GPU.
I'm considering putting the 2500 and the GPU from my current rig (Nvidia 670) in the rig downstairs and building a new silent rig with the G530 and 6450 for the HTPC in my bedroom.

Anyway, you didn't need to know that, I just like rambling a lot. Question is, will SteamOS allow 'apps/programs' such as XBMC/Plex. If not SteamOS will be a big fail for me.

Side question, for anybody in the know, how would you rate Plex? I currently run on XBMC, but as I've just got an unlimited data plan, and I'll be upgrading the CPU in my server, I'm considering Plex simply because it'll transcode film for me and allow me to stream it to my mobile phone/laptop when I'm out and about.

Can't answer the first question but as for plex I like it a lot. Runs smooth, transcodes really well. Only a few minor quirks, it need to be restarted once in a while (plex server). The client will freeze when starting a movie and I have either reboot the server or kill plex server and restart it then it runs fine. It only happens once a month at most. My internet went down and I lost connection to my plex server because I didn't enter direct IP for it but I fixed that easily enough.
