BEWARE 8800 GTX Owners-> Ntune

post #1 of 19
Thread Starter
Hey guys, so since I received my 8800 GTX, I am exploring everything. And I have one warning to give you when using nTune:
The "Find Optimal" button for GPU overclocking does not work and causes your computer to display a blue screen (not Bsod though) for ever, I was worrying something was bad in my computer, but no:

Quote from : http://www.custompc.co.uk/custompc/n...-8800-gts.html

As with Coolbits, nTune allows overclockers to click a 'Find Optimal' button which forces the driver to make its best guess as to the frequencies the card will be able to handle. Unfortunately, regardless of what driver we chose, all it did was turn the screen a nice shade of bright blue or pink and crash the PC. More annoying, tweaking the speed sliders didn't actually work, so we just resorted to using PowerStrip instead.

So basically, nTune doesn't allow you to overclock.

With the 8800gtx and 8800gts your best bet is to use rivatuner 16.2 for overclocking (no auto feature) and atitool beta 16 for artifact scanning. Many progs are still having problems.

Hello, I have been on the receiving end of this problem as well with a blue screen and weird pink/green lines across it upon clicking on the mentioned ntune feature and restarting the computer.

The exact same thing happens in rivatuner when you let it detect core speed of your video card for you; upon reboot (which it will ask you to do when you click on the "enable driver level overclocking") you get the blue scribbly screen of death.

rivatuner will not auto find settins you have to set it in manually. so use the latest version of rivatuner and remember only go up by 10mhzs at a time

For rivatuner I just clicked on the top left box above the clock sliders with "enable driver level" and a box appeared that said I would have to reboot for rivatuner to detect core speed or something like that. Just wanted people to know that clicking on reboot option caused this kind of problem for me.

I've had none of these issues with my 8800 Ultra, is it just the GTX and GTS that are affected?

thats why you click detect now. any real overclocker would know that. and if you dont know how to use rivatuner i would start asking on the fourms about how to overclock your card. its an older one so there are alot running around i would help but im on my GTSs much better then the GTX IMO. lol

Ewww, i avoid ntune at all costs. The few times I tried it on my 7600gt it just froze my system and OC'd to scary numbers. The best choice is still ATiTool for stability with Rivatuner for ocing.

As I said, I've had no issues with ntune myself, recently added an Accelero 8800 and it helped me get the GPU up to 700MHz stable.

Maybe it's down to a few different things.

Who would use nTune when the option of RivaTuner is available?
