Z87X-UD3H Sata Port Problems

Thread Starter
hey guys, thanks to the advice of some other guys here I got myself 2 WD Blues and they've been doing just fine so far!
One problem I had when connecting them was this though.

This is the layout of my Sataports

I have my OS SSD in Port 0.

I then connected my WD Blues to Port 2 the other to Port 3.

But the motherboard only recognised 1 of them!
I then connected one WD from Port 3 to Port 5 and suddenly both were recognised!
What gives?
Are 2 Sata Ports a channel that can serve only 1 HD?

A bit concerned that I may have a faulty mobo!
Any help appreciated!thumb.gif

Do you mean the drive was not recognized in the BIOS or by the OS?

Check the BIOS first. Make sure the SATA port is enabled. (There should be an option to enable/disable each SATA port individually.)

Each port is independent, so it shouldn't matter which port you plug them into. Did you try re-plugging it in port 3? Maybe it was just loose or something.

Ok thanks for clearing that up. I don't think it was a lose connection, how likely is it that it's a fault with the mobo?

I'd say it's pretty rare for there to be a problem with the motherboard, but it's possible it has a bad trace or connection or something. You tried a different drive on the port, just to make sure it wasn't some kind of compatibility issue?

Let me give it one more try... also could updating the BIOS resolve the issue?
