New to overclocking (i5-3570K @ Stock cooler)

Thread Starter
So, I built my first very own PC in July and someone had recommended me the i5-3570k as I 'would be able to overclock it later'
Now I was curious about overclocking but have some questions, I'm using the stock cooler and thermal paste that came with this, is it a good idea to overclock like that?
Some people posted on a forum you REALLY shouldn't, others said it's alright till a certain point etc etc..
IF it would be good, could someone give me some easy guide? A friend sent me a link to Intel Extrem Tuning Utility, so I might use that?

Thanks ahead!

Welcome to OCN!

Your ability to overclock will be dependent on motherboard are you using.

Asus? Asrock? Gigabyte?

You can overclock on the stock heatsink, BUT, you'll need a way to monitor the temperature. As with any overclocking, you have the potential to fry your rig. Keep your temp under 105c while stress testing with IBT.
