Quad FX! Great in Vista? - Page 2

I don't think AMD can compete with intel until their next generation chip comes out. Quad-FX is just a temporary solution so that they would have something in the market. Intel did the same thing with the core duo (not the 2). They rushed it so it's not a good product.

Also in Quad FX, is someone going to get 2x aftermarket heatsink? Though reviews so far say they are poor overclockers. 2 big typhoons? That's a mobo waiting to crack.

Core2Duos outpeform the Quad FX's in many benchmarks, let alone QX6700 and beyond. Stick with Intel.

the companies were just in a ghz race before dual core. a 6600 C2D is as powerfull as a 8-12ghz P4.

we dont need higher ghz, we can already oc to 5ghz on current tec, How much faster do u need to load windows? 3 seconds too slow?

we need a more efficiant way to use the energy provided by PSU's, and a cheaper way of manufaturing CPU's.

Naw, i think what we need is a cpu that doesn't produce a lot heat when overclocked at high frequency with lots of faster core

I believe, realistically, by Q4 that we will be seeing 45nm chips out from intel (http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=4109, see the roadmap VR-zone provides?). Then we will see even less TDP from Core2, and quad core technology.

However, to be honest, I will probably be banking on a Kentsfield at Q2 after the price drop.

I looked into 4x4, I really did. But it just doesn't make any sense for me. I mean, there is SO MUCH new tech I would need to buy, and its not any cheaper than Intel offerings. For what? Not any uber performance increase. Woe, Woe to ATI and AMD. I am a big fan of ATI and I cant believe this is all happening to the guys.

Just some benchmarks i didnt see posted here..

http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q4...x/index.x?pg=6

Seems AMD may be taking workstation in performance, now if only the power consumption is lower.

In a minority of the benchmarks. Honestly, how can you justify 50% more power consumption for a slight lead in a few things, and a loss in most things?
