Airflow Config for Phantom 410 - Page 2

Buy a better heatsink if you plan ocing to 4,4ghz+
post #12 of 24
Buy 3 of these, remove all three of your fans and junk them.

Noctua NF-A15 PWM 4-pin PWM SSO2-Bearing 1200-900rpm Premium Fan

Buying three more fans will be so noisy it will be like sticking your head under the hood of a diesel.

I`m actually planning on doing a mild OC, 4ghz max so I think the EVO is enough.

Those fans are about $30 in Canada each, that`s quite expensive. I was thinking more like $12ish for each fan. And, you think that having those 3 fans alone would be enough?

I would say just use what comes with the case and 212 first. If that's not enough then you can always add more fans later.

Edited original post thumb.gif

As I said in my original post I'm going to pick up some corsair AF fans for my phantom 410. What do you guys think of mounting a 120 mm rear exhaust, 1 140 mm top exhaust (I can fit 2 at the top but I want positive pressure to have less dust in the case so I'm thinking of only mounting 1 fan there, and in the position closer to the drive bays), 2 120 mm front intake, and possibly 1 120 mm bottom intake? so that would give me 3 intake and 2 exhaust. Or, should I do 2 intake :2 exhaust? Thanks for the help everyone smile.gif

The Phantom 410 was one of my first reviews.

To improve your airflow, remove the inner grill from the front panel. To filter all of your intake front fans, get real filters.

As I noted in the review, your top fans can be intake fans. At least try it that way.

Remove all of your slot covers so air can escape.

For the side panel, try both intake and exhaust.

For all fans, use 140mm where you can. Also, get PWM fans where you can. A PWM splitter (like this one) allows you to spin up your fans only when you need them.

Lots of possibilities with this case.

Thanks for the reply, and I've actually read that review before! Awesome job smile.gif Since this is my first build, I'm trying to keep things simpler (there's a lot to know about each component). Could you tell me if this set-up would be efficient?
2 front 120 mm intake fans (Corsair AF performance)
1 bottom 120 mm intake fan (Corsair AF performance)
1 rear exhaust 120 mm fan (Corsair AF performance)
1 top 140 mm fan (Corsair AF quiet)

All of these fans, I plan to connect to the included fan controller with the case and place them on low when idle and crank them to high during gaming. Is that configuration valid? I don't want to use up both 140 mm top exhaust slots because then I would have 3 intake (2 front, 1 bottom) : 3 exhaust (2 top, 1 rear) and I was thinking that a positive airflow pattern would be better so 3 intake (2 front, 1 rear): 2 exhaust (1 rear, 1 top, the slot closer to the drive bays). What do you think of that? As I said I dont want to hear an engine so Im trying to keep it as quiet and affordable as possible. Just as a side note, the cpu is a 4670k with a 212 evo and an Asus R9 280x for the gpu.

It's a valid first approach. After you've had it a while, more possibilities will occur to you.

So, my reasoning to have positive pressure is correct? And, how about connecting the fans to the controller, will I have any issue there?
