[Build Log] mITX Gaming Rig - EVGA Hadron Air - Page 3

There's no room for a PCI card. USB is your only option unless you don't want a video card.

I'm shocked that board doesn't have Wifi! I thought every ITX board had Wifi! Considering the price of the stinger... that's really disturbing.

This is a nice looking case unfortunately after watching one or more of those youtube unboxing videos I'm left feeling empty cause it's far from being perfect in my opinion... headscratch.gif

EVGA, how about making some tweaks to the HD rack? As there are many m-ITX board supporting more than four devices.

That seems unreasonable.
  • The case is tiny, not a monolith like the prodigy. I don't see physical room for more drives.
  • It has 500W, that's enough for a high end GPU, CPU, 1-3 drives, not more.
  • I'm not even aware of any ITX boards that support more than 4 drives, and that has to include your optical drive

Just because other ITX cases fit more hard drives doesn't mean they should or that they do it without sacrifices. I feel like if you want more than 4 hard drives, what in the world would you even consider ITX?

The idea of this particular case is a really small, highly portable case. EVGA totally nailed it, and all the complaints I've seen about it are from people who don't really value the size, and then they'll start to argue that it's worth a little extra space for more options. Anyone who thinks that should get a different case. People seem to dislike this case are basically listing as their complaints all of the things I really, really love about this case.

I'm looking forward to EVGA's future cases, and I'm sure you'll see them come out with a (likely ATX) case that is still somewhat portable, but suitable for many drives. But the awesomeness of this case would be utterly defeated by making it bigger just for more drive space.

My god why didn't I see this post before ordering my parts for my Hadron Build frown.gif!?

So far I have the same case(obviously), Motherboard, Memory and then I have the i7 Haswell processor instead of an i5. I also have went for Noctua fans for the roof fans instead of the Gentle Thypoon fans. I am still waiting to buy my GPU! Just running Windows 7 with the Intel graphics for the next few weeks.

I went and bought a Noctua NH-L12 CPU cooler for my build and after about 2 hours of fighting with it I got it in with out having to remove anything but I couldn't get 2 sticks of memory just 1 because it was just over lapping the first Memory slot on the motherboard. I would say if the daughter board wasn't there I would have been able to fit in. I am now back on Stock cooling and my god does it get warm I have seen temps in the mid 80s frown.gif

I see that you are using the Noctua NH-U9B! What is the temps like and do you have any clearance issues with the memory slots? Would I be able use my 2 sticks of ram? Is it fairly quiet also?

Thanks

Keep in mind that there could be a difference between clearance on different motherboard/cooler combos, not just the cooler.

I have a GA-Z87N Wifi, I will update when I put my U9B in, probably Tuesday if there are any RAM clearance issues.

Btw, guys, how do those signature clubs get started? I'd like to be in a Hadron Owner's club tongue.gif

nice build, i just built something similar but with a Fractal design case (even smaller and compact), and I totally know what you mean about the cable management lol.

Why do you need WiFi? Can you not get a wired solution?
Hmm, why wouldn't you want wifi? It's not like it stops you from plugging in. Besides, why would you go out of your way to find a MITX board that doesn't support Wifi (if there are any?)

I bought this Intel 7260 802.11AC/Bluetooth Mini PCIe card for my Stinger and it worked out of the box with Windows 8.1. I also bought these antennas and secured them on the back of the case with a couple of EVGA Velcro straps.

I couldn't get the Atheros Bluetooth drivers to install in Windows 8.1, so I just disabled it and use the Intel BT.

^ good job, but I never knew that the Z87 Stinger can have a wifi card on it?
