Nvidia’s Tony Tamasi has announced a new GameWorks program at the GPU manufacturer’s Montreal 2013 event. The goal of this initiative is to empower and enable game developers with new tools that will aid them in creating better gaming experiences.  Close to 300 VFX engineers and artists at Nvidia are currently working in collaboration, the end result of which is the GameWorks library.

Apart from the obvious stuff like the game mechanics and gameplay, a lot of work goes behind the scenes developing graphics and visual effects for the game.

To help simplify these tasks for game developers and visual artists, NVIDIA has announced its new GameWorks program, a multi-platform solution aimed at empowering developers with the tools to help them create better graphics experiences.

And This one is from Nvidia

We’ve dispatched our engineers to work onsite with top game developers and add effects, fix bugs, tweak performance, and train developers in open standards and work hand-in-hand with our game laboratory.

So... this counters Mantle?

So this is to combat Mantle without the hassle of creating a new API

Instead of working both on the same API, they both create their own.

In 10 years you won't even be able to play certain games depending on which side you choosed.

This worries me.

From the looks of it honestly in 10 years there will be Nvidia or AMD exclusive games.

Sounds more like a library of assets that could possibly be integrated into middleware like Unreal 4/CryEngine/Frostbite and so on.

Mantle is just the API. It doesn't bring anything new, visually, to the table.

Just sounds like a more serious attempt at PhysX effects or rather what PhysX should be.
