Nop.

But technically, if you protect a market that is not there, it's like an open door for it to be there.

However it's kinda weird, the PS2 came into production here in 2009, for example. Years after the launch of the ps3. However the same thing was present: huge price launch.

Read the text I posted above on the real reasons for such high prices.

I personally PC game for the upgrades and if the upgrades aren't cheap, then I would be able to game more on the PS4. In 10 years the PS4 will still be able to run modern games while the PC would have been demoted to facebook duty.

I feel bad that Brazilians get reamed to hard on taxes.

wait what? thats silly. So if you build an X86 PC right now with the same power as the PS4 (7850+ cheap APU) and in 10 years time the same X86 games on the same or slower PS4 will be running them better? Even if that was the case PC gamers can always dial down settings to ridiculously low or change resolutions, overclock the GPU/CPU etc..

Also facebook duty for a 2.56 Tflops / 153 gbps bandwith card 7870 when a $100 smart phone / weak ass Atom Net-book PC from 7 years ago can do this now? Forgetting indie games which are booming and enormous fun and 2D/3D platform / top down games / RTS etc.. The only games a 10 year old PS4 will be able to play over a 7850/70 now is if it was a terrible port somehow when it was written on PC using X86 C+ compiler to another almost identical X86 box and then intentionally borked for the PC on its upload to the steam servers using the almost EXACT same code.

So no, its always better to build a custom PC and even more so now all the consoles are actually off shelf PC's in a box

I skippwd ahead so apologies but from what I had read no one had mentioned that depending on economic factors price converting doesn't work by copy pasting into Google. 500 in Australia isn't 500 in USD after converting due to minimum wage, strength of economy etc etc

Also it costs money to make, ship, store, ship and than sell items. Barely anyone considers that, also taxes and insurance - from what I know about Brazil is that its a beautiful yet dangerous place....

It's not the taxes that makes the PS4 price go to ~US$1800, it's $ony. We usually pay 60% more than US prices, not 400% more.
The taxes are there to motivate companies to bring their production to Brazil. That's helped keeping our unemployment rate at under 5% (voluntary unemployement taken into account) and also kept our economy growing in the middle of a global crisis.
It sucks to have such expensive gadgets, but you have to look at the bigger picture, right?

Because all the import taxes on that sale are related to a single international purchase... I'm pretty sure retailers can bypass that with bulk orders and still charge as if they were subjected to the "individual simplified clearance" higher import/export taxes....

http://www.sice.oas.org/ctyindex/USA/USTR_Reports/2011/NTE/BRA_e.pdf

This gives an idea of the tax rates applied for door to door courier which states that if a product's price range from US$50 to US$3000, it may be subjected to a flat tax fee of 60% of the product's original value...

"Brazil applies a 60 percent flat import tax on most manufactured retail goods
imported via mail and express shipment by individuals that go through a simplified customs clearance
procedure called RTS (simplified tax regime). Goods with a value of over $3,000 cannot be imported
using this regime."

It´s not just 60%. There´s an extra tax applied in some states that pushes the net cost to around 100% (ICMS). Yeah, products are very expensive here thanks to our pseudo-capitalist-semi-socialist government and lack of competition amongst producers. It´s pretty stupid really.

There´s no candidate on the foreseeing elections that have on their agenda the reduction of this tax, thanks to the stupid predominant ideology. Feel sorry for us guys, or not, because we go crazy shopping travelling abroad. Good for you, I guess.

its not only Consoles, its everything... being a gamer in Brazil is hard, very hard.

when ps3 launched it was tagged for around 2,5k$(~6k reais at that time)in the big stores. nothing new here.

and remember guys, our minimal wage here is 678brl or 300usd per month. frown.gif
