RDP is simple to set up.... your machine just has to see the other machine on the LAN or VLAN.
I understand this. I've set it up numerous times. I'm saying that there are far more variables when going the manual route. You have to contend with ensuring the IP address is either maintained or known through a URL with a DDNS service, your firewall needs to be configured correctly - which doing so can vary wildly depending on what you're running, and certain settings need to be correct and unchanged in Windows. Too many things can mess with any of those variables. I'm in no way saying it's an incredible feat or impossible to get working. It's just far easier to leave TeamViewer running on your rig, and it just always works. Minimal setup, and there's practically nothing to worry about.
Through TeamViewer, both the desktop and app equivalents, you can also log in and access any of your remote computers with ease. The list and authorizations are saved remotely. You log in and boom, good to go. You can set your session to persist on your phone app, so you don't even have to log in if you don't want to.edit
New or different computer? Install TeamViewer, log in, ready to go. New or different phone? Install TeamViewer app, log in, ready to go.Edited by Kaldari - 10/17/13 at 8:48pm
