Do I need to update chipset driver (and other questions)?

Thread Starter
I recently did a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit. After, all that I installed was my ethernet port driver, USB 3.0 driver, and graphics card driver. Then I did all the recommended updates from Windows Update. I did not update the chipset driver.

I have the ASUS M5A97 and on the ASUS web page it lists 3 chipset drivers for my motherboard. One is 800mb and the other two are about 250mb. I have the base M5A97, not the EVO, PRO, LE, etc. edition. (I am not 100% certain I have the base M5A97, because my computer was pre-built for me. But the motherboard manual that came with the computer only says ASUS M5A97 so I am assuming it is the base version).

You can find my motherboard drivers by searching "M5A97" at this link: http://www.service.asus.com/#!downloads/c1wax

I tried the 800mb chipset driver file, but it wants me to start off by installing Catalyst graphics card drivers. This seems silly seeing as how I have a GTX 760 and want to keep my computer as clean as possible. I also read bad things about keeping AMD drivers on your computer when you don't need them.

My computer runs well but I am wondering (as we all are) if there is something I can do to make it run better.

So I have some questions:

1) What should I do? Should I update the drivers? Are there drivers available that don't include the Catalyst graphics card drivers? I read somewhere that chipset drivers are only like 5mb.

2) Should I have updated any other drivers, bios, software updates, etc. when I did my clean install? As stated earlier, I only updated my USB 3.0, ethernet port, and graphics card drivers, and did all the recommended Windows Updates. Am I missing anything else? Example: I see SATA drivers on my motherboards web page, but I don't know if I need them.

3) Can I confirm that I have the base M5A97 and not a variant? Like I said above, the book only says ASUS M5A97 and not LE, PRO, EVO, etc. I would hate to update the wrong chipset drivers if I actually end up doing it.

Thanks a lot.

Windows 7 has default driver for both AMD and Intel. They are usely better then AMD SB drivers, which is the only driver AMD has for the chipset. I don't use they expect for RAIDs setup.
