MSI- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130689 $409
gigbyte- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128591 $139

damn, couldn't find cheap one for MSI, that's my brand... looks like Gigbyte wins this round...

with video card prices dropping, you want to leave room for an upgrade to CFX or SLI depending which way you go (GTX 760 TI should be out soon for <$200)
both these boards have PCI-E x 16 (x2) where the boards listed above have PCI-E x 16 (x1) and PCI-E x 8 (x1) ... just something to ponder if thinking ahead.

I'm not an Nvidia or ATI fanboy so i just want the best price/performance card on the market. I dont think i'll be using Crossfire or SLI but if i do is having an extra 16x really worth more money?

For two card crossfire, pcie 3.0 8+8 isn't bad. Currently it works. PCIE 2.0 8+8 is pushing it for the heavy duty cards. If you're going to go to the wall and get a pair of 290Xes, the full 16+16 is probably wise. the really questionable ones are the 16 +4s I wouldn't do two GPUs on those unless they were seriously low power.
